About Fuora

Fuora Dance Project was founded by Federica Esposito and Giulia Montalbano in February 2014. Since Giulia took over as the Artistic Director in 2016,  Fuora has produced dance shows, performances and movement-based workshops for younger audiences, families and communities. Fuora Dance Project celebrates diversity and places underrepresented voices and untold stories centre stage. Our company's work has been presented to multiple venues and festivals, including:

 

Edinburgh Fringe 2015, Hidden Door Festival, DanceLive, Scottish Storytelling Centre, Resolution!!2015, Perth Dance Festival, Cottiers Dance Project and Streetland, CityMoves, London Bridge Live Arts Festival, Dance International Glasgow, Teatro Libero and Dundee Rep Theatre. Most recently, a National Scottish tour of W-hat About? visited The Gathering Showcase (The Touring Network), Diversity Week at Borders College (Live Borders in collaboration with NHS Scotland), Lochgelly Centre, Platform, Adam Smith Theatre, Dundee Rep Theatre, Cumbernauld Theatre, Eastgate Theatre, Pitlochry Festival Theatre, Mull Theatre, Arran High School Theatre and Brunton Theatre.

Giulia Montalbano

A London Contemporary Dance School First-Class Honours and Postgraduate alumna, Giulia is a full-time dance teacher of ballet, floor-barre and contemporary dance, including Cunningham, Release, floor work and Skin release, Contact Improvisation and Partnering work.

She has experience of teaching dance to disabled young people, children from 0 to 11 years, youth groups and adults. She has also facilitated classes for companies training for professional dance in Scotland. These include: 

Dance House Glasgow; Scottish Dance Theatre; Royal Conservatoire of Scotland; Macrobert Stirling; YDance, Horsecross; Nurseries and Primary Schools around Scotland; Dance Base; CityMoves; Fife Youth.

Alongside her teaching work, Giulia has also performed internationally with:

Cora Bissett (Grit); Scottish Dance Theatre; Rambert Dance Company (Dane Hurst); Alan Danielson (Limon Dance Company); Jo Strogmen (Sweden); Victor Qujada (Canada); Hofesh; Liv Lorent; Fleur Darkin; Maura Morales (Germany); Shumpei Nemoto (Japan); Matthias Kass (Switzerland); Eliot Smith Dance; Janice Garrett (USA); Company Idem (Switzerland); Rep of Shioban Davies (London); Richard Alston (Ceremony of Carols); Rob Heaslip ( UK/Ireland); Henri Oguike; Shaper/Caper and Chordelia Dance Company (UK).

Giulia worked with Rosie Kay as dance leader for 5 Soldiers and as a choreographer for the premiere of Marc Brew's Brew Band for Youth Engagement of The Space Students in Dundee.

She is currently the Dance Development Officer for Aspire Dundee, Dance Lecturer for Junior Conservatoire of Contemporary Dance at RCS in Glasgow, Associate Coordinator at Royal Ballet School of London, Dance lecturer at Dundee Rep/Scottish Dance Theatre, Macrobert Arts Centre and Artistic Director of Fuora Dance Project.
